Newnham Trucking collapses with $1m debt after 23 years in Brisbane

A Brisbane trucking company is in administration after trading for 23 years, with about $1 million in debts.

Newnham Trucking, which operated out of Park Ridge on Brisbane’s southside, went into voluntary administration and ceased trading in June.

Its sole director and shareholder Graeme Newnham is still operating another transport business.

He is also the sole director and shareholder of two related and still active companies: Express-West Transport, which was registered in 1989, and Newnham Trucking No 2, which was registered in May this year.

A new report from the administrator for Newnham Trucking yesterday revealed the business had about $1 million in estimated debts, including $492,387 owed to the Australian Taxation Office.

Trade creditors, including suppliers and other service providers, were owed an estimated $226,838, the report from administrator Leon Lee of Morton & Lee insolvency said.

Employees were owed up about $52,418 in superannuation, the administrator wrote.

According to the report, the director said “poor economic conditions and trading losses” had contributed to the company’s failure.

Unaudited financial statements from Newnham Trucking showed it had suffered a loss of $253,404 in the 2025 financial year up to June 16th, following a $677,688 loss in the 2024 financial year.

The administrator’s report also noted the company did not have sufficient working capital and assets to pay its debts, when they were due.

Newnham Trucking no longer owns any vehicles or equipment, the report said.

According to the report, the administrator also claimed Newnham Trucking may have been insolvent from early 2024.

Creditors could vote to wind up the company next week, as recommended by the administrator, but their potential payout was uncertain.

No deal was proposed for creditors in the form of a deed of company arrangement.

News Corp contacted Mr Newnham, but he declined to comment.

The closure follows multiple others in the transport and freight sector this year, including national transport group Tailored Freight, which went into liquidation/news-story/94cf0906240a6e67960e089447b197d1″ target=”_blank” data-tgev=”event119″ data-tgev-container=”bodylink” data-tgev-order=”94cf0906240a6e67960e089447b197d1″ data-tgev-label=”business” data-tgev-metric=”ev”>liquidation last week.

Liquidator Jarvis Archer recently told News Corp the industry was facing challenges including driver shortages and rising costs.
