Aussie trucking company plunges into liquidation, leaving 200 without jobs

A national trucking company has been plunged into liquidation after 35 years in business, leaving about 200 employees without jobs.

XL Express went into voluntary administration in June with administrators FTI Consulting appointed to review the company’s finances and assess its viability.

The Queensland-based company was founded in 1990 and expanded with depot and facility locations in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Darwin.

It is reported it has an estimated $42 million in debts.

The company also operated regional depots in Newcastle, Cairns, Townsville and Mackay.

The group’s 200 employees were stood down after XL Express was locked out of its premises at Smithfield in Sydney’s west in late June.

The closure comes weeks after the Don Watson Group announced it would close after 77 years in business.
